The Claw: Hello Darling 24K

Poppies in time for Remembrance Day
If you recall in this Claw post, I also received 24K from the lovely ladies at Hello Darling. As you recall I am not great at nail art. So for Cup Day week I did lovely pastel nails with gold 24K accents. The above is my attempt at a closeup picture of 24K accents. The glitter are a mixed of small gold scatters and bigger round glitter flecks. This is different to glitters that I have encountered (admittingly not many) which usually does one size of glitters.

The poppies have bloomed in time for Remembrance Day and honestly I had no idea what they were (no surprise) and I did not realise when they started to grow into such a huge bush!

Oh look a foot photo bombed!
Oh LOOK a foot photo bombed! Woohoo.. On my toes is Lime Crime Peaches n' Cream which I purchased from Makeupnet in a share purchase with Vita from Makeup4MyAge. More to come about that purchase :)

Pansies that came back to life
On the glitter fingers was Hopelessly Devoted and the non-glitter fingers was Breakfast in Bed. I shall attempt more 24K accents and will hopefully get better closeups!

So who is a glitter fiend as I am hearing a friend of mine is starting mixing her own polishes and is about to do some wicked glitters! You also need to tell me how on earth you remove them without tearing your hair out?

  1. Oh well done on another great claw post! Gorgeous alternating pastels and that top coat looks fab!

I usually do the foil removal method. Soak some cotton in acetone polish remover, wrap some foil around it for about 5 - 10 minutes to keep the cotton in place over your fingernail and then remove, and it should come off fairly easily. It's good to do this while watching tv or something. :P

Alternatively, just use a PVA basecoat so you can just peel it off in one big chunk. But I haven't been having as much luck with this so I need to experiment more.

I like a bit of glitter from time to time but I agree that removal can be a pain.

    1. OMG you're right. I had a top coat for these. It was a cheapie from Cutex with a cute brush that I can paint with one stroke. :)

Yes I have heard of this, same as removing shellac. Does it do any damage with nails and cuticles? -> Sorry that is totally dumb question.

  2. Glitter is the most prettiest thing in the world, but the most terrible! I am allergic to chipped polish (mmrhm, you heard it here first!) yet always find myself peeling off the glitter over 1-2 days. Disgusting. If you find the answer (the answer needs to be quick, none of this soaking business) please enlighten me.

  3. Beautiful mani because it's sparkly but still understated and tasteful. I agree with The Made Up Maiden - the foil method is probably the best way to deal with glitter removal. How exciting you'll get to try custom polish!

    1. When worn in real life, nobody really commented that they were different. I think it sort of "blended in" well. :)
      Thanks for dropping by.

  5. I looooveeee a good glitter polish!

I use the foil method too. Soak cotton balls in acetone nail polish remover and place directly on nail. Secure with tinfoil and leave for 5-10 mins. Apply some pressure as you remove and it should come of pretty easy.

Another new one that is going around is the PVA method. Use PVA glue as your base coat where you will be using glitter nail polish. Let it dry, apply the nail polish. When ready to remove it should just peel right off leaving no damage!

  8. Yes yesssssssss I'm a glitter fan!
More-so just on an accent nail as i cry even just thinking about when the time comes to take it all off.
I usually just use the foil method as it doesn't mess with my application by putting on coats of different bases etc

  9. You've convinced me I need this polish. Gorgeous mani.

I use Bourjois Magic nail polish remover to remove glitter polishes. It still takes about a minute for each nail but it's easier than the foil method.

  10. Love the glitter - tasteful amount yet still cute and fun! I've always avoided glitter for the concern that it looks too 'party' for the daytime but this is awesome
