Sold my Wedding Gown and New Lemming

So ... I finally sold my wedding gown. There is an extremely funny story with this that I will not talk about because one day the person who bought the gown might find this and might not find it funny. Maybe email me if you want to know about it. It was sold on the spot and I knew that she would buy it. I should have been a personal shopper in another lifetime because I could just tell. She had that OMGAWD THAT is MY dress look.

I will go back to telling you about the story of my gown but everyone is yelling out LING IT WAS 5 YEARS AGO YOU BOUGHT IT, GIVE IT A REST! But this blog didn't exist when I was going through my non-Bridezilla Bride days. So you will sit and read.

I can say without a doubt that wedding gown shopping was just the most horrifying experience in my life. Yes in my life! The sad looks of pity I received from girls and assistants when I went in alone. Followed by, "awwww you poor thing, you're alone" they would cry out in unison. Then you are forced to come out of the change room as the gowns are never in my size and falling off me. They would then all join in with uninvited comments of yeah that other dress was better.
You are also greeted with big piles of meringues, most of them you just want to laugh at, not try on.

When you meet wedding gown couture people, you need to have a vision of what you want. This was my first mistake. I did not. And who knows what lace will be used? And how will it look all finished? Will it look like Oscar de la Renta or Oscar de la Wenta? - Quote from my friend Eva Wong.

What does a Melbourne girl do when beaten down by Bridezilla mania? I walked into Mariana Hardwick. Correction.. I walked into Mariana Hardwick discount outlet because I had no appointment on a Saturday. Seriously! If it wasn't for the awesome assistant making suggestions and insisting that I tried on the final gown... I had that OMG THAT is my DRESS look. Yes it was THE DRESS. I put a deposit down after they told me that I confirmed that they were no child slaves making their gowns... Ms Hardwick's daughter nearly threw me out the door for asking if their gowns are made in China. Yes, I did ask. I told you that I am shameless.

Now the fun part. What lemmings do I have now? And what should I do with the small sum that I now have? I want the YSL Saint Laurent Chyc clutch. As usual it's mostly sold out, so far I can only find the Nude. If anyone finds any in their online shopping travels. Please holler out.
YUMMIESSSSSSS

And please share you bridezilla gown horrors. Please indulge me... I love Bridezilla stories.

  1. Haha... I didn't have a Bridezilla moment, but I too went in without a clue of what I wanted and the lady tried me in a meringue dress for fun and to make me hate wedding dresses I am sure. Anyways, really happy that we both sold our dresses. I am still researching for what to do with my un-tidy sum.

    1. I saw a Chinese shop at work with a copy of this. It was pretty good copy ... But was still $130+. far out.

  3. Oh congratulations on selling your dress! It was so beautiful and I'm not surprised that you had no trouble finding another bride to love it.

I was a "tragic" bride too... I only went into one wedding dress shop, but when I did so, I was alone. It didn't help that it was apparently quite a famous shop in NYC and most of the other brides were busy arguing with the staff about the "limit" of maybe 10 people per bride?!? Everyone else was with a tribe and there I was. I know exactly what you would have gone through *laughs*.

I love those clutches! I hope you find one you want... and it'll always be YSL to me. Always.

    1. Oh thanks! The gown was just plain Jane according to the dry cleaner and they don't see many of them there. Lollll!
It will always be YSL to me too

  4. I want to hear this 'funny' story!!! Meanwhile, I love your wedding dress story. Stories like that make me smile, and its why I love watching Say Yes to the Dress (surely you've come across that in your tv watching, if you've come across My Strange Addiction!)

YESSSS to the Saint Laurent clutch. I don't remember if I said that already via twitter. Anyway, I'll keep a look out, but why not the Belle du jour clutch if you can't get this one? That seems pretty timeless and still available online in the classic colours.

    1. BDJ also comes in a heap more colours and is cheaper. Annoying thing is I'm a sucker for the Y chyc branding - of course!
I will email you the story! Will email you the story! It's gold.
And yes addicted to wedding reality shows too!

  5. Why did you go shopping alone out of interest? Personal choice

I went into the place next to Marianna Hardwick. Can't remember what its called but it sells all those Maggie Sottero dresses. Anyway after trying on Mariana Hardwick, these dresses looked a little cheap and nasty so I didn't like any of them. The Russian shop assistant kept asking me why I didnt like the dresses, they were beautiful dresses and I should try more on and keep harrassing me with tons of them in her arms. Couldn't get out of there fast enough

    I love the purple clutch!

    1. YESSSSS THAT SHOP IS GOLD!
I went in there and it was hoop central. My friend and I were scared of that shop lol.
It's really hard to plan for appointments and get my friends there with me. I taught pole on Saturdays and never was sure if I had hens or private classes to teach after until the week before. It's just too hard. Plus I didn't know what styles I wanted it would have taken ages.

  6. There is store down the road from my work that sells these clutches and I'm the one that wants it in nude! Let me know what colour you want and I can see what colours they have. From memory I saw purple....

  8. I am a bride-to-be and I truly hated wedding dress shopping!
I found that 80% of the dresses were just hideous and most of them were ridiculously overpriced!
My biggest mistake was bringing my future mother in law to one of those wedding dress shopping trips (I thought it would be nice since she doesn't have a daughter). She heavily criticised a very few dresses that I liked and tried steering me into direction of my-big-fat-gypsy-wedding type of gowns.
I ended up choosing the dress on my own...

    1. I'm not surprised! Haahha my grandma was most disappointed at my hairstyle that day. She said oh that's it? I guess she wanted a big as veil!
Btw overpriced is the right word!! Are you still on talking terms with MIL? :p
